It’s the Round of 16 in the Carabao Cup in midweek, with seven intriguing fixtures taking place. Sadly the eighth fixture has been postponed. Leicester were due to host Southampton on Tuesday but due to the death of Leicester’s chairman that fixture has rightly been pushed back.

Back to the football and things are hotting up in this event, with the likes of Manchester City, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur all still battling away. All four clubs are looking to progress to the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup and will be eyeing up some early season silverware.

Frank Lampard heads back to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, as his Derby County side make the trip to the capital to face Chelsea. Meanwhile, there’s a London derby at the London Stadium, with West Ham United and Tottenham locking horns. Arsenal host Blackpool while Man City entertain Fulham.

Chelsea v Derby County: Lampard Heading Home

Frank Lampard had 13 incredible years at Stamford Bridge as a player, winning the Premier League three times, a UEFA Champions League and four FA Cups. He also won this competition on two occasions as a Blues player. The former Chelsea man is making waves in the EFL Championship with Derby, but can his Rams cause an upset at the Bridge on Wednesday?

Chelsea are flying under Maurizio Sarri at present, winning four of their last five in all competitions. Last time out, the Blues beat Burnley 4-0 away from home in the Premier League. Having seen off Liverpool at Anfield in the previous round of the Carabao Cup, Sarri will want his side to ease past Derby in midweek to reach the last eight.

County have had a fine run of results in the Championship of late but getting anything from this one will be a tall order for Lampard’s men. We fancy the Blues to be too strong for Derby on Wednesday, so back the hosts to win -2 at the tempting odds of 7/4.

West Ham United v Tottenham Hotspur: London Derby to Go Spurs’ Way

Rivals West Ham and Tottenham go head-to-head at the London Stadium on Wednesday evening. These two squared off at the Hammers’ home in the Premier League recently, with Erik Lamela getting the only goal of the game in a 1-0 victory for Spurs. As expected, Mauricio Pochettino’s boys head to the London Stadium as favourites again.

After back-to-back defeats, Manuel Pellegrini’s Irons picked up a handy 1-1 draw at Leicester City last weekend. In the previous round of the EFL Cup, West Ham thumped Macclesfield Town 8-0.

Tottenham, who have found some form lately, edged past Watford on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time at Stadium MK in their last EFL Cup match. This could be a close derby at the London Stadium, but our money is going on the away win (6/4).

Manchester City v Fulham: City Unstoppable at the Etihad

Pep Guardiola’s Man City, who won this trophy last season, will be looking to progress to the next round when they take on Slavisa Jokanovic’s Fulham on Thursday night. With these two teams at opposite ends of the Premier League table, the Citizens go into this cup clash at the Etihad Stadium as the overwhelming favourites.

Man City have been flying of late, and Guardiola’s troops should be far too strong for the Cottagers on Thursday. Meanwhile, Fulham have lost their last four in the Premier League, shipping a staggering 15 goals in the process. Man City beat the Whites 3-0 at the Etihad in the league back in September, and we can see a similar outcome here. Have a punt on City to win -2 at 8/11.

Elsewhere in the Cup

Arsenal will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run to 13 games in all competitions when they entertain EFL League One outfit Blackpool at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday. After being held to a draw by Crystal Palace in the Premier League last weekend, Unai Emery’s side will want to return to winning ways on Wednesday before facing Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in a mouth-watering league encounter at the weekend. We’re backing Arsenal to win this cup match -1 (3/10).

Another interesting fixture taking place in the Carabao Cup in midweek is the Bournemouth v Norwich City affair at the Vitality Stadium. With both teams flying high in their respective leagues, this will no doubt be an entertaining matchup on the south coast. The Cherries should win this one, though, with Eddie Howe’s men available at 8/13.

  • Burton v Nottingham Forest – Nigel Clough’s Burton Albion welcome Aitor Karanka’s Nottingham Forest to the Pirelli Stadium on Tuesday night. Burton currently sit 16th in League One while Forest are seventh in the Championship. The Reds will back themselves to beat the Brewers, so put some money on the away win at 5/4.
  • Middlesbrough v Crystal Palace – On Wednesday night at the Riverside Stadium, Tony Pulis’ Middlesbrough and Roy Hodgson’s Crystal Palace square off. Boro, who have won just one of their last four in the Championship, have beaten Notts County, Rochdale and Preston North End to reach the last 16. Palace, meanwhile, earned an excellent 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League at the weekend, and the Eagles will fancy their chances at the Riverside. The Palace win is available at 13/10.
