On Wednesday night, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City entertain Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Southampton in Premier League action at the Etihad Stadium. City will be hoping to hit back after last weekend’s disappointing derby defeat to Manchester United and few will be betting against them doing just that.
Manchester City v Southampton
18:00, Sky Sports, Etihad Stadium
Manchester City would move another step closer to the Premier League title with three points against Southampton at the Etihad on Wednesday. As you would expect, Guardiola’s boys are the overwhelming favourites to get the win on home soil, despite their uncharacteristic defeat last time out.
Before Sunday’s 2-0 home loss to Manchester United, the Citizens had won 21 league and cup games on the spin. A second minute penalty from Bruno Fernandes and a counter-attacking goal from Luke Shaw did the damage for United as they put a minor dent in City’s title ambitions. As for the Saints, they had lost eight of nine before Saturday’s 2-0 victory at bottom side Sheffield United. Although Southampton will put in a shift (as they are still not safe from the threat of relegation), we fancy Pep’s boys should return to winning ways in style on Wednesday. We’ll be backing the hosts to win both halves of this match at odds of 5/4.
